The discussions we had at the Bo'ness meeting were based around possibly trying to organise a Scottish N gauge show. Of course the aims of the group are sort of dependent on the members, hence seeking expressions of interest first, then trying to figure out the path forward from there.

Intrigued and interested. What would be the aims of such a group?  This is not a negative response, but for sure an interested one.

Regards, Allan.....
Hi Allan,

We had a bit of time at Modelrail today to have some thoughts...

1 - Purpose of the group
2 - Options open to us if we were to form a group
3 - Longer term aims

In response to 1

Become active in promoting the N Gauge Society in Scotland.
Provide a more interactive opportunity for N Gauge modellers of all skill levels to meet and interact.

In response to 2

Provide a virtual clubroom for the members of the N Gauge Society in Scotland
Provide opportunities for members of the N Gauge Society in Scotland to show the public what they get up to

In response to 3
Provide an annual exhibition in Scotland of N Gauge modelling by members of the N Gauge Society who are  based in Scotland
Provide support to the society stand at exhibitions.

Thanks
Thanks

Do you think there might be any point in starting a FB group for those interested in your thread here?  As a possible 'feeler' for something more extensive and formal?
"When in trouble, when in doubt, run (trains) in circles..." etc.
There, doesn't that feel better?
Lovely!

Allan,

Assuming you have no objections, I will place your above post onto the NGS Facebook page, to help garner more support, or at least raise awareness.

Hi Scott,

Thanks - I did wonder about the 'who and how' of getting a posting on the FB pages for the society.

Next question/answer?

Don't know enough yet - will have to wait and see for a bit longer.

However - to the N Gaue members in Ireland

This Scottish grpou isn't really for you.

You should start the same asking process to see what the response is as that will lead you to the answers about viability.

Thanks
Thanks

I'm up for getting something started.

All for promoting n gauge in Scotland at local exhibition level to the ultimate
N gauge only exhibition.

I used to be a member of the NGS society until I exchanged emails with the chairman a few years ago who told me that they would not consider going to the Perth Show (the best is Scotland IMHO) because it was too far. If that kind of attitude still prevails withing the NGS I wish you well in getting any support from them, I think you may be left to get on with. Sorry to be so negative, but that was my experience with them.
I had hoped to make the trip to Bo'ness for the meet up but unfortunately had to cancel.
Having been to a couple of forum meet ups, I found them most entertaining!

Hi Lawrence,

Management has changed and so have the attitudes.

The feelers are already out to get the NGS to Perth.

All I can ask is patience - once I get a response it will be advised on here.

There is a fair bit of interest already and I have acted on it.

There will be something in the next mag as it seems that there are till members in Scotland who can only be reached by paper communication.

I am now doing the same sort of member map as I did previously for DEMU in Scotland.

There is already something on the society Facebook and Twitter pages about this possible group.

Thanks

Thanks

I'll keep an eye on how this goes Phil, and wish you well with your venture. Whilst my interest lie with American & Japanese stuff, I still found the magazine interesting, it was the attitudes that put me off.

If you consider calling it that you would have to have it just outside Perth

Hi all,

thanks for the input - much appreciated!

OK - It is my intent to let the threads on here and other places run until after the next Journal is out.

There should be an official notice in it about creating something in Scotland.

Between the various places and direct mail to me there are aboout 35 people who are interested.

Hopefully the entry in the Journal will result in more people coming forward.

in the meantime.....

The name is not being decided on now. That will be up to the members who are interested to decide.

At present - Lets refer to this idea as "The NGS in Scotland".
Thanks

Hi all,

Things have moved on at a fair bit of pace!

The first outing to see what interest there is shown will be at:-

Perth & District MRC presents

A Celebration of Model Railways 2018

The Dewars Centre, Glover Street, Perth PH2 0TH

June 23rd & June 24th 2018

The idea being that if we are have a presence at shows, it will be easier to gauge the level of interest.

If you are coming to the show - say hello!

If you are free and want to help out on the stand - let me know!

Thanks
Phil H
