There's usually a full page advert in the NGS Journal from Colin showing his current models and prices.

Must admit I've never bought a UM model and have never seen such a thing as a catalogue :hmmm:
I usually only get to see them when someone posts a pic on the forum.

Colin of Union Mills doesn't have a website so no online catalogue. If you give him a call I'm sure he'll send you a priced stock list. Can't give you a number cos I'm on my mobile but should be easy to find or someone might post it.

Probably would be a good idea for someone with knowledge of the range to add details to one of the N databases out there?

I usually refer to  www.spurweite-n.de/ which is pretty comprehensive but is lacking any UM stuff.   Yes it is in German but has data on models from many manufacturers.

I just wish to register my incredulity that in this day and age any company can exist without a website.

As a very small one man band he does advertise in the N G S handbook and in one or two magazines but I would think most of his sales come from word of mouth and comments on Forums like this ,he is very helpfull if you ring him but the only way to see photos is on here from member own photos.

Perhaps Colin of UM is best placed to be that someone with knowledge of the range.

There is a Union Mills photo gallery on the N Gauge Society web site.

Best regards,

True, but unfortunately 3 small photos of the black 0-8-0 isn't really a comprehensive gallery.

You'd think if Colin's not able to sort out a web site himself then someone else could put something together for him for a small consideration, if nothing more than decent photos of each model and a paragraph of into.  Probably only take an evening or two.

My guess is that Colin has already got as much business as he can comfortably handle. He probably doesn't need to actively advertise his locos as, as someone in this thread has already pointed out, he gets most of his business as repeat business or by word of mouth. If you call him he will probably provide you with as much info as you need.

Yeah, I don't think that Colin has much trouble moving locos, as both his last releases have sold out almost immediately and he's had to make a second run of them. He's very customer service oriented and ships very quickly (astoundingly so to the mainland U.K., apparently). I was initially surprised that he doesn't keep a website, but I understand why he doesn't. It seems like it would be unnecessary work from his perspective and would require considerable updating to ensure stock quantities were always accurate. By contrast, he is very happy to send out a full price list on request (even to the US) and is amiable and helpful on the phone. Not to mention he stands by his work. I'd rather he spends his time making locos than checking a website :)

As for photos, there are several places that are good options:

1. Googling the model in question almost always pops a picture of it up
2. The forum has a good repository of pictures that can be found using the search bar
3. Finally, there is a thread on the forum dedicated specifically to photos of UM locos: http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=1245.0

As an aside: It wouldn't be a bad idea for someone(s) to make a website with just pictures of various UM locos, as a reference. I would be happy to help in such an endeavor, but would need permission to use photographs posted here or elsewhere, as I'm just now waiting on my second UM model. If anyone else is interested, perhaps PM me and we can start a thread about it if there's sufficient interest.
