Yes, I like it for ease of use and reliability.  As you see I lay foam board around it and then fill the gap with the Kato matched ballast.

I see you use the Kato magnetic uncouplers.  Do these work with the Dapol easishunt couplers?

Union Mills doesn't do a website. You can call Colin directly at: 01624 852896 or email him at Colin.h@manx.net. He's very friendly and dispatch is usually very quick. The Dukedogs are sold out but he is taking preorders for a new batch of Dukedogs due the middle or end of February. The liveries will be BR Black, GWR shirtbutton, GWR GWR lettering, and GWR Great Western lettering.

Final bit of advice from Colin which provides an alternative method of shortening the pins;

".... If you want to have a shot at shortening the pins yourself. I would take the wheelset out complete. Carefully push the pins through the cranks until they stick out the back but still leaving the rods free and then cut off the projecting part with a pair of flush cutting cutters, Xuron rail cutters would be ideal, you probably have a pair. If you take the pins out your will have a job to cut them to the right length, you will throw up burrs and not be able to get them back into the holes again. The turned crank pins have a taper on them to ease them into the holes."

I tried this myself today with much trepidation but I managed it without clipping anything off the plastic bits! Just taking that tiny bit off the pins improves the look greatly.

I found they cut easily. No damage to my cutters that I could notice.
