I have ordered my City of Truro but itís a shame Colin hasnít done the livery I hoped he would , even as I suggested  as a deluxe one off with etched name and number plates thatís the one that would sell to even the modern image modellers but at least he did listen and do it and the experts like Ozy and other will be kept busy upgrading it for those of us that havenít got the ability to do it ourselves ,I will try and afford to get someone to do mine I will be asking Narrow planet to do the name and number plates for me they really are very nice plates and a reasonable price if you donít mind waiting for them. Then I will have three flagship locos on my layout
City of Truro
Poppylino
Chiltern 68
And those are not in any order of preference they will all be equall
And apart from Revolutions A P T E when itís available , City of Truro will probably be the last loco I will be able to buy unless I sell even more of my collection as the price of locos goes up but my State Pension stays more or less the same. I will have two Dapol 45xx locos for sale on the B H E STAND  £50 Ono at the Great Central Railway Show this weekend to pay for the City

Not for GW purists I agree, but I did think she looked rather smart ... could be tempting  :-[

And let's face it, a lot of RTR steam locomotives are operated on modern image layouts as 'preserved steam specials' and the like. In which case anything goes!

Cheers, NeMo

I'd like to see a South Eastern 4-4-0 like a D or L1. With the birdcages due it could help with sales :) They have a great track record with large 4-4-0's!

It's not too difficult to hack a Farish 4P into a reasonable looking D1/E1. I once did a more severe hack into a D15, back in the 1980s.
Cheers MIKE

Bad news and Good news .
I have just spoken to Colin and have been advised that City of Truro delivery has been delayed due to the amount of detail to be fitted ,Colin said its taking a lot longer than anticipated and delivery will not be  until at least  the middle of October ,but he said the orders are just piling up and it will become a collectors Model so if you are thinking of getting one order now or you might not be lucky enough to get one .
When I asked him what he meant by all the extra details he wouldnít elaborate but just said that we will be very impressed and it will be one of if not the best Model he has produced.
So we will all have to be a little bit more patient ,but it will be worth it.

Just off the phone with Colin, seems a really nice guy, first time I've ordered a Union Mills loco, my son has one and its pretty much bomb proof. Looking forwards to getting CoT

Just ordered a CoT as I'd hate to miss out (he did say availability end next month). Tried for an e/crest G2 to come with it but Colin only has 1 LMS livery left @paulprice
He tells me they will be available again early in 2019

If Colin does do City of Truro  he could do it as a deluxe edition with etched name and number plates but I doubt if he will do it with the full lining ...
I would have thought the 1957 restored ornate 1904 livery would be a very popular version.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/40/GWR_3440_City_of_Truro_-_geograph.org.uk_-_1479746.jpg

Actually that is a more recent shot. The 1957 livery had some of the equipment above the splashers painted red as well. I do agree that this would be my favourite version to see modelled. I have lined a steam loco before but I am not sure even I am up to reproducing that ornate lining. I wonder if one of the custom transfer makers could do something?

Well, that's just not good enough. Some fount of all knowledge you are!   ;)

Thanks for the update, Bob. The hint of extra detail sounds promising.

The slight delay does give @Ozymandias a bit of extra time to clear his workbench!

Middle of Oct is only four weeks away so not too long to wait better and certainly a lot quicker than if Graham Farish or Dapol decided to make City of Truro

I'm really in three minds about getting one (two minds are never enough). It was still in service until 1931 (I model 1929/1930), so it's entirely possible that it could be used on Taunton summer specials to Bournemouth West via the S&D, but there's no record that I've seen of it doing so. Plus I have a UM Dean Goods for this. Do I sell the Dean and get this - as it's more appropriate than an 0-6-0 - or put up with what I have (a really good loco). Decisions, decisions...

What's to decide?  I want one because I want one, even 'though I don't "do" GWR.
