and don't even start me on the idea of Tom Cruise [ all 4 ft sod all of him] as 6ft + and built like a brick err barrack block Jack Reacher from the [IMHO] great Lee Child books.

Having read all the Reacher books when they announced Tom Cruise was to play him I fell off my chair laughing. However, I recently purchased the twin pack DVD and, if you can forget how big Jack Reacher is, they are actually good films IMO and true to Reacher's ethics.

I have not read the Reacher series but my friend had and he laughed as well when he heard of Cruise being cast.

We saw the first film together and I also liked it (very dark, like the better action films of late). Subsequently bought that on DVD.

The second isn't as good IMHO.

Anyway, will not highjack the thread any longer...back to the little grey cells!

Re Tom cruise -remember he's usually standing on a box, or his leading ladies are in a trench!
Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind;

Well, I watched some of it via a certain gizmo that may or may not be plugged into the TV.  :uneasy:

OK-ish as a bit of light entertainment but the 4 car thing bugged me. I know very little about trains in general but a reasonable amount about my favourites like Mallard, Flying Scotsman, and my biggest favourite of all, The Orient Express. Even in its darkest times it never ran with less than 8 carriages and the most recent one (which I was going to buy tickets for) has 18 of which 12 are sleepers.

Mind you, it didn't bug me as much as the Hornby OO set called (bizarrely) "The Orient Express" which consisted of an A1 loco and BR Pullman carriages, neither of which are correct except for the UK part which was only to ferry passengers to Paris where the real Orient Express route started. Lovely set but technically not correct. Now, if any manufacturer fancies making some nice CIWL carriages.......

Oh, the film, yes. "Unremarkable" is about as kind as I can be. Not bad, but not exactly captivating either.
