12 ft mainline with carriage depot branch
« on: May 04, 2017, 03:26:05 pm »
Afternoon all,

This weekend I visited my Father in law with SWMBO and played on his wonderful 20ft long O gauge station and goods area layout.
During the course of the weekend SWMBO has said that I can go ahead and build a 12ft layout. Joyous and happy days abound.

My current in progress layout will be taken apart as if it was a trial and test track.

To that end I have amended my previous thoughts on a 12 ft plan into the follow:

As you can see you can enter the fiddle yard onto any track through the 3way and double slip

The central area is a carriage depot and engine shed. thoughts and ideas please let me know, criticism welcome :)

At 3 squares to the foot I make the width of the baseboard 2ft 6in so I'm reckoning, taking into account the fiddle yard, those curves are going to be pretty tight :hmmm:

The inner curves are all mostly 3rd radius, the outer are 4th with a little tightening near the fiddle yard to 3rd. (When using 3rd radius code 80 to compare.)

but yes you are spot on on the board dimmensions, 3600x 750mm in the new money, just under 12ft x 2.5 ft

I like this concept. No platforms or people, but lots of carriages.

I would do without the pointwork inside the carriage shed. They don't usually have that.

Also there are usually two roads into and out of a shed complex like this - one of which has a carriage washer on it and is usually the incoming line - I await all sorts of comments on this throw away statement which I cannot substantiate from fact :)

More of a loco stabling point than a loco shed but it is all in proportion.

Nice.

What era/region is this going to be?

Bob

This shot of Clapham carriage sidings is an inspiration as is everard junction. Quite liked the points inside to free a shunter and propell to the end

Made some tidy up changes to the plan, made the fiddle yard far simpler, expanded the boards to 900mm, added a 4th road to the sidings as per most examples.
