but you can have fun with firms that think you have a smartphone, they try so hard to get you to do things, then you say the 'but it isn't working on my flip phone' and their heads explode. :claphappy:

Our landline can be fun - the phone in the living room is a 1940s, rotary dial phone ... so no tones, no hash and no star.

Quote from: thebrighton on January 02, 2024, 02:51:00 PMTo improve the patient service Eastbourne and Hastings hospitals combined a few years ago so each could specialise in certain areas. On the face of it a good idea but not so in practice.

It seems that without fail the service required is always in Hastings whilst we live in Eastbourne. Indeed, if I look out the upstairs windows I can see Eastbourne hospital!

My son needs to see a specialist and after a 6 month wait his appointment has come through and, of course, it's in Hastings. Trouble is it's 3 appointments, Monday, Wednesday and Friday in one week all at approx midday. He has no way of getting there, it's 20 miles and 45 minutes by car so I would have to take him and then pay the extortionate car park fees. It would also mean both of us taking all 3 days off work. Alternatively if in Eastbourne it would take him 5 minutes to pop in from work.

As a result I rang them as I know they have clinics at both hospitals for his condition. "Yes, we can arrange for the appointment to be in Eastbourne but he'll have to rejoin the 6 month waiting list".

Aaaargh!

Luckily by making himself available 24/7 my son managed to have his 3 appointments this week so only just under an 8 months wait but just when you think things are happening good old red tape reappears on the horizon.

He has a skin problem and this week had 50 different chemicals applied to his back to see if any resulted in an allergic reaction. If there is no reaction he is referred further up the chain or so we were led to believe.

All results were negative but the consultant said we needed to make an appointment back with our surgeries dermatologist so he could refer my son on. Evidently the hospital can't do this so lets add in another appointment that wastes everybody's time.

Back to our surgery we go to make this pointless appointment but no, the dermatologist has left the surgery and my son can't be booked straight in to see the new dermatologist but has to be referred by his doctor so we have to make an appointment to get an appointment to be referred to another appointment and, of course, we can't see his doctor for another 2 weeks.

It's almost like they make it as difficult as possible in the hope you'll give up.

I HATE COMPUTERS

why cannot firms answer their phones ?

bbbrrrr brrrrr hello
simples

but no, they need a computer to answer,
then you need to submit your details in their format
some like your dob as xx-xx-xx, others want xx-xx-xxxx
account numbers,
some want with letters, some want just the numbers

then finally you get, after  :poop: music to speak to a human,

and the first thing they ask for is

INFORMATION YOU TOLD THEIR  :censored: COMPUTER FIVE MINUTES AGO.

how is this customer service ?

it's just a way to  :censored:  off customers.

when I covered a shift in the guardroom, you were expected to answer the phone within x 5 rings....
"Main Guardroom, Cpl Jenkins, Sir"
if you didn't you would find yourself being 'advised' by your sgt.
same when I worked on security, answer the phone within x 5 rings

why is it now acceptable to have to wait for ages, after call answered by 'computer', before you get to speak to a human to solve your problem ?

nothing to do with reducing staff / costs of course  :veryangry:

customer service ?

not in my book.
