New member from Australia. Complete novice!
« on: December 03, 2017, 11:20:38 pm »
Hi everyone,

New member from Australia here, who has never undertaken any model railwaying in any way, shape or form ever before - but always admired the skill and talent of those who do. However, recently I came across a stripped preform layout for cheap, and thought I may as well jump in feet first. The forum has been a wonderful resource thus far, and I have lurked for a month or two and simply read the massive amount of information on hand.

So although I've started restoring (what I presume is) this N gauge preform layout, I have ran into some trouble identifying it. I'll try to post in the relevant sub-forum to see if anyone recognises it, as obtaining a track plan with associated radius measurements, etc. would be truly helpful.

Anyway, many thanks for the terrific content thus far. :)

(Apologies for the double post. I already posted this in the 'NGF Code of Conduct' thread, but thought I should re-post here to perhaps be a little more visible. Dear Mods - please delete either post as might be required!)

Welcome to the forum and welcome to model railwaying, Johnny

There are a few members of the forum from Oz including me. Where do you live? Here, it doesn't really matter whether you live in Oz, the UK, or Timbuktu as international communication is seamless.

I am sure someone will be able to identify your layout when you post some pictures.

Yes, let's see some pictures, please.  :beers:

I'll delete the other post and we'll keep going with this one.

G'day Johnny, Which part of our vast 4 seasons in one day land do you live in. We might be able to help you network in with some other modellers who are not too far from you.

Many thanks for the friendly welcome everyone. :)

I'm in Melbourne, Victoria - currently enduring the freezing cold and rain of our first days of...summer!

I live relatively close to the 'Branchline' model train shop in Croydon, which has been a terrific help in sourcing whatever I need thus far. As a complete novice, it's all a bit overwhelming to begin with, so I felt that buying a preformed layout would provide me with a bit of a step up to get going. Maybe I was wrong there (!), but I'll continue the discussion in my other thread.

Thanks again! :)

I can vouch for the bad weather in Melbourne. Currently only one season per day - winter  :(.

At least the cricket has resumed in Adelaide.

Best regards,

Joe

Great to have another forum member in Oz.

Like your avatar - here's a similar ('Blue') that lives mainly under my feet!

Look forward to seeing your layout pics.
