OMWB - 4CEP EMU's
« on: November 13, 2017, 03:02:48 pm »
Afternoon folks,
First workbench thread by me...
I am currently converting a number of GF MK1 coaches in to a pair of 4cep EMU's, one in Blue and Grey and the other in Jaffa cake colours using Adam Warr's excellent graphics.

I will post pictures here shortly showing progress made to date, but first a question...

Does anybody know where I can get some bogie frames/sides that are similar to or match the southern region MK4 motor bogie as per the one in the link below?

link...  http://www.semgonline.com/gallery/pics/cd_68007_3.jpg

All help much appreciated.

Mike

Hi

I used Farish 101 DMU bogies for my 4CEP and 2HAP with Taylor Precision Models (TPM) etched third rail pickups. Unfortunately the third rail pickups are marked as no longer available on the TPM website. BH Enterprises may be able to help www.bhenterprises.co.uk

BHE113 2 sets etched brass EMU shoebeams 1.20

The farish bogies are available from here
http://brlines.co.uk/original-farish-spares/
Part number GF1410-10

Cheers

Looking forward to your progress on this Mike. I'd love a Jaffa 4CEP to compliment my blue/grey.

Alec.

Just a thought. In NSE days some units received Mk6 motorbogies which look a lot like Class 73 bogies. Sure it post dates Jaffa Cake but....probably easier to find.

Hi
FWIW you can get etched stainless steel frames in 2mm  £18 a set - very delicate and a work of art in their own right ! - I have 2 sets stashed away.  Great looking work good to see more EMUs comming along.

OOOoooh that is interesting... where can you get those from?
Thanks for the encouraging words... there are plenty more units in production which will appear here in due course including a pair of Class 456's, a pair of 442's, another VEP, a Class 205 thumper amongst others! Watch this space... more to follow!

Masterclass Models are planning a re-run for their brass sides for 4CEP and 4BEP.

Hi Master Class etches are very fine but are 2mm vice N scale so are about 0.5mm lower and about 1.1 mm short on a farish coach side  so need just a little work.

They do however make a great coach as a kit

Hi

Are you sure as they were designed as overlays for the Farish coaches and are to 1/148 not 1/152 (the current list Chris sent shows them under the 1/148 section). I don't remember them being too small when I built my 4CIG and 4EPB using them (neither are finished yet).

Cheers

I just wish we could still get Bernard TPM's wonderful EMU ends... I would certainly be adding many more to my fleet if I could.

Paul,
and apologies to Mike for micro hijack. I recalled as 1/152 but if shown as 1/148 even better  and if I have got suppliers mixed up apologies again.

It is just good to see emus coming along so nicely.

Re ends pretty certain BHE has a cast version of the ends - bought some at DEMU this year IIRC - but as above shows that might be in error !  :sorrysign:
