Sutton St Annes - Provincial North-West Lancs - 1992-1995
« on: October 24, 2017, 03:33:47 am »
Hello and welcome to Sutton St Annes.

Sutton St Annes is a fictitious seaside town set somewhere along the coast of north-west Lancashire between the towns of Blackpool and Lytham. The line to Sutton St Annes diverges off at Poulton-le-Fylde, on the Preston to Blackpool mainline. So what can be seen at Sutton St Annes? Plenty of loco hauled action from the provincial / regional railways sector, as loco hauled passenger services are still very much in the hands of class's 20, 31, 37 & 47. 1st & 2nd gen DMUs, small trip freights and a daily nuclear flask working. Era modelled is 1992-1995.

Layout size is 10' in total (9" wide) 6' scenic with a 4' traverser board. Sutton St Annes is available for exhibitions.

I currently have 3 exhibition invites, so I thought it time I started a little thread, as some areas are still yet to be finished. These being the small fiddly details such as station signage, signals etc. I plan on getting these final bits and bobs finished within the next few months.

In the meantime, enjoy some photos :beers:

Cheers
Anthony

Hi, Anthony! Great pictures!! :thumbsup:

Lovely modelling, and some very nostalgic liveries on lightly weathered locomotives.

Thanks for sharing!  :beers:

Fab!  Love it.  :thumbsup:

When I was a child we used to go for summer holidays to a similar place between Lytham and Blackpool.  We didn't go by train though; interminable car journey!

Cheers Jon  :)

That looks great. I only live about 20-30 miles away from Sutton St. Annes so if you let me know the post code I'll pop over and do some spotting ;)

Mr Sutton
Do you have any more overview photos of the layout?

Morning all

Wow, thank you for all your kind comments :) I am overwhelmed. Before I go any further though, I really need to let you into a little secret. I didn't actually build the layout. I commissioned the very talented Steve Hornsey of Skegness to build this for me (who some of you may know) The track plan and idea behind the layout is all mine, but I cannot take credit for the build. However the small details, locos and rolling stock are all my work. Give me a loco or item of rolling stock any day to build, renumber, respray, weather etc, but when it comes to building layouts, I just loose interest. Hurrah for the pro layout builders out there :beers:

Richard has asked for an overview / track plan of the layout, so here we are...All 6' of it (9" wide) The traverser fiddle board has 6 tracks and is 4' long. Lots of room to house plenty of stock.

As you can see, plenty of room for a loco and load 6/7, but the majority of my rakes are max load 6. The regional sets are mostly load 4/5 with a 31 or 37 up front and load 5 parcels. 2 and 4 car DMUs. There is also room in the run round loop for a small freight. Note the line at the rear, this is a carriage siding. Once Farish release the new Mk2 air cons, I plan on having a cross country rake with a 47/8

Cheers
Anthony

With exhibition dates looming in 2018, it's time to start finishing the list of small list of jobs I have to do on the layout. First of all is an uncoupling system, as no one likes to see the 'hand of god' at exhibitions. I have opted for the Dapol Easi-Shunt system, as it's just ease from start to finish, also the majority of my coaching stock are NEM couplings, so it's just a case of plug and play, same goes for my locos. After speaking with a fellow n gauger at the Dapol open day, he gave me an invaluable tip regarding the magnets - cut them in half! They still work perfectly and don't stand out as much. A great cost cutting exercise as well. First one installed and tested fine, just need to tidy it up a little now with a little paint and ballast to hide it a little further.

I shall be adding a few more magnets then I can crack on with the list of other jobs which include
* Signalling
* Station signage
* Point rodding / point machines
* Line side details
* Car park / vehicles
* Extra people on the platform
* S&T yard (bottom left)

Cheers
Anthony
