Cut and Shut NCB Brakevan - Take 2
« on: June 06, 2017, 09:26:35 pm »
There's an interesting article on RMWeb about the the Lilleshall Company, and the nearby Granville Colliery. It seems that a couple of Cannock and Rugeley Colliery brake vans migrated there:

http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/93378-the-lilleshall-company-a-little-known-industrial-railway/?p=2712791

I decided to build the first of these, CRC No.1 as a partner for my previous project.

I have a spare Peco "10ft Brake Van Chassis" from CCCCo No.4, and although the data panel on the 1991 photograph quotes a wheelbase of 9'6", and the Peco's closer to 10'6", that'll do for me. The body began life as a Grafar LBSC 20T brake, sawn-off to match the chassis length, side windows filled, roof shortened and the cab facias mounted flush at front and rear:

Lots still to do - watch this space!

Mike

This is coming on; extra woodwork added (Plasticard), planking marked across window fillets, roof edge flattened off, half of upper step removed from chassis:

Next, some Sellotape strapping, stanchions, then priming.

Thanks Chris. Plasticard has always been my material of choice - ever since Airfix Magazine conversions in my teens!

OK, well that's a wrap for the two Cannock brake vans, seen here with a friend from the North East.

Several interesting candidates to model from that region, so watch this space!
