Could see the appeal, for the price does it not come with a truck stuck on the crossing?

Does anybody know -Are the sensors just by the gates - or are they further afield so the gate works like the prototype ?

The blurb says sensor tracks  have extension cables

The picture shows a pre-production model, the final version will be slightly different with double yellow lines and an adjusted stopping line)

Hotly demanded! Kato will be bringing an automated electronic crossing gate, complete with lights, sounds, and infrared sensors for detecting locomotives and cars! Fully automated and DCC friendly! This crossing gate will feature multiple selectable warning sounds, smooth moving crossing gates, and a fully enclosed and automated system for detecting trains and lowering and raising the gates - no button pushing necessary!

Visit the Kato USA website homepage for N Gauge Track Accessories for all of the details on this new crossing gate

Keep an eye on our e-newsletters or twitter account for an upcoming video showcasing this new crossing gate in action!

The sensor tracks are fitted up and down stream from the crossing

Crack is the cheapest I've seen the crossing in the UK is train trax at 164 - although for those who are rich Amazon have it for 620 ( madness ) not seen a Japanese store advertising it on there for a bit .
If enough people showed interest - Darren at Fleetwood  might do a discount ?

The grade crossing certainly looks like a nice piece of gear.

I have two grade crossing installed on my layout; one just has flashing lights and the other has flashing lights, lowering gates, and a bell just as the Kato one does.

The bits for the crossing that has the bell and gates cost me: $43 for the electronic controller including photo sensors (Logic Rail), $31 for the crossing gates (NJ International), $7 for the bell (Logic Rail), and $19 for the gate motor (Tortoise Circuitron) for a grand total of $100 (US dollars). The Kato crossing costs $220 from the same supplier, but of course the Kato set-up is far simpler and doesn't involving digging holes in baseboards or much wiring.

I have a passing loop just upstream from both my crossings which has required switching of the photo sensors on both tracks and a whole lot of extra wiring. I'm not sure that the Kato crossing could cope with this situation.
