24 tooth gears for Farish class 66s
« on: December 31, 2016, 03:51:56 pm »
I have two of the older class 66s - the ones with pads to solder the decoders to the pcb - which need the gear at the top of the drive train replaced.  They are very worn presumably because the worm gear attached to the motor wears the plastic teeth away eventually.
I can see 25 teeth gears advertised but not the 24 teeth ones.
Does anyone know a source please?

I think I would try Bob Russell at BR lines.

If you run the Farish class 66 upside down as part of testing/lubricating routine, the gear at the top of the bogie is slightly out of mesh with the motor driven gear, leading to premature wear. Try only to run it with the weight on the wheels, i.e. on the track.
Been there, bought the replacement gears!

email bachmann's service department with a description of the part and which loco its for (catalogue number etc).

Usually a very good service.

Repairs - not everything has to be sent away - you can fix most thing's yourself. Ask and help will be provided.

Waiting for the RTR version? - why not try a kit?
