I am part way through building a hill and tunnels from a polystyrene base, Woodland Scenics inclines, Peco tunnel mouths and plaster bandages. Only the trackbed is designed and drawn out - the rest is being made up as I go along!

If it looks difficult it probably is, but might as well get on with it anyway!

Tweaking my pva/water mix for ballasting. Gradually ballasted half the layout over the last week and it looked solid but when I went to airbrush it large patches blew away :/ managed to vacuum up most of it with a handheld and filter it back into a bag for re-use at least :)

Sounds like your mixture was too 'dry'. I use a 50/50 mix with a couple of drops of washing up liquid in it.

zwilnik

Yeah i use the same, as well as lightly spraying with a water & soap mix first as a surfactant. My mix tends to be more watery to soak in more but I don't think I'm mixing it well enough in the eye dropper. I think I'll do the next batch in a pot or bottle and mix it more thoroughly.

I'm making a lifting section so that I can get to one of my two operating wells.

This is the first time I've tried this, pics can be seen on my layout thread, Contemporary North West England.

How does anyone manage to get time to do anything on their layout?

The Q

Friday nights only at the MRC when SWMBO is at her art group...2.5 hours a week is slow progress. Next week fencing...

Help, do I surface the street on my layout with cobbles, tarmac, or similar?

Newportnobby

Not actually on a layout, but this week I har mostly been weathering some already factory weathered Dapol 20T mineral wagons and creating some lift out wagons loads. All that's left is for me to vent my spleen on the coal which @dannyboy very kindly sent to me from Ireland and to carefully mound it up on the 2mm thick card used to make them.
Full gory details to come when they are completed.

Newportnobby

Now annoying the hell out of/getting revenge on my neighbours by having at the coal with a hammer in a noisy, and very messy, fashion >:D :D

I hope you're doing that hammering away from the layout, Mick, or you'll be hoovering like mad for a week or more!

Running my Poppylino into the fiddle yard on the up line and back out on the down line into the fiddle yard and back out on the up line it's just so beautifull watching it snaking through the yard points and then back out on the scenic section again .
I just love it .
But I still like my G W R Steam and Diesel locos as well .
I really am a rule one man, and I just can't wait to get the Revolution APT-E and the Union Mills City of Truro IF Colin does make it.
