No 90° not 180°  - one side up one side right (or left)

I have just stripped and rebuilt my 08 and came across the same issue. I found the answer by default; fitting them any other way resulted in the wheels turning like a drunk snake.

........and thanks to EP; I've always wondered what 'quartering' meant.

No, they should be a quarter of a full circle out of phase, so for instance if one conrod is at 12 o'clock then the other should be at either 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock.

Don't go pulling the wheels off the axles - they come pre-quartered, and if it's an old style Poole model the quartering is likely fine - you're more likely to cause trouble than cure it!

Cheers,
Alan
