What's your favourite US diesel loco ?
« on: August 10, 2013, 01:14:22 am »
Thought I'd jump on the 'favourites' band wagon and ask...

What's your favourite US diesel loco ?

That includes anything diesel powered that runs on rails in the US. Your favourite road name for that loco would be good as well.... The reason being that some loco's look better in particular livery

I'll get the ball rolling with my choice... Alco RS1 (Great Northern)

If it's got rails... you have my full, undivided attention - Steam, diesel and electric, 'tis all good !

Such a good and difficult question!

The RS 1 is a great choice, do I have choose just one?

if it has to be strictly US then it would be a toss up between an LV C628 in snowbird livery or the classic D&H liveried PA1.

If I can include Canada then it's either MLW M636 or Canadian National C-Liner in green and gold

Jeez. This a hard one

Glad your a fan !

I did wonder about Canadian stuff.... I think we'll include them as they are more or less the same (train wise - I've no wish to upset US/Canadian relations !).

Good choice on the Alco PA, I really love the D&H silver/blue.... I reckon this may be an Alco victory (probably due to the awesome noise they make !).

If anyone disagrees.... Add your vote here !

I also like the Alco PA but I have a great liking for the E8.

I have a few E8 locos in different liveries and they all look good  ;)

cheers John.

The e8 is lovely, ESP in PRR. Livery, although I'm rather fond of the earlier Es with the slanty nose I think look better!  I do have a via rail e8 that I'm fond of mind :)

Just a thought, but how about posting some pictures of these locos  :camera:  ;)

Because of the many liveries it could be someone posts a picture of a livery not seen by everyone before

I will start off by posting a picture of one of my favourite Alco PA1 and PB1 units  :heart2:

cheers John.

I like these too, shame the N scale ER models/Bachmann version is a bit poor up to modern standards.

Great idea about the pics...

So first off, here's a CN M636

The green and gold Fairbanks-morse C-Liner

And not D&H but the classic ATSF war bonnet PA1 (who couldn't love a wife who got you a Kato AB pair of these for a present :)!!

I'd forgotten the Baldwin shark nose, another lovely one well done!

My favourites are the SD40-2 and the SD70ACe, and I also like the GEVOs.  Basically, if it's still running on the Class One lines, I'll give it a second glance!

Not an easy question to answer because I like them all, I will cheat and pick one from EMD and one from Alco,

My favorite EMD is E8 in Penn Central livery
Favorite Alco is RSD 4/5 in Black and Silver ATSF livery

Keep on Smiling
Dave.
