With all the guff about the Grand National in the past few days tv showed
film of a lot of old races, some showed rakes of coaches beside the course, a
mixture of blue/grey and maroon MK1s. Did the people watch the race from the
train, were they special charters,  was it a siding etc  ?

Looking at Google maps earth view, the railway is not that close to the race track and I don't see any signs of a disused railway

However it's always likely that any signs of disued railways can be quickly obliterated by subsequent development.

Interesting pix, on the disused stations site there are details of the racecourse
station , only used on race days , now closed and the line now a cycle path.

I used a similar station when I went to the Open at Royal Lytham a few years
ago,a small halt adjoining the course.

Hi Mike,

The line came off the ormskirk line just about 300 metres north of the Aintree station, and curved quite sharply round and over a bridge behind the existing Halfords store (you can see both bridge and 'Halfords on google earth and the before the area was redeveloped for the equestrian centre and the back end of aintree retail park.
