New Farish Class 31 when is it due
« on: February 10, 2018, 11:52:12 am »
Hi all

Anyone with inside knowledge on when the new Graham Farish Class 31 is due to go on sale

Given that it takes a Next18 decoder I fancy getting one for sound as all it will need is a speaker hidden somewhere, probably the fuel tank without any other modifications needed, as the Next18 board should have speaker connections on it.

Thanks

Paul

I would imagine it may also come pre fitted with a speaker like the class 40 ?

I believe the info from Bachmann stated that the chassis were being re-tooled to use Next18's along with a pre-fitted speaker to allow easy sound installation, just like the current class 40's. I think that perhaps for those diesel/steam locos that can be altered this might be the new standard format in which they are produced.

They are doing the later version of the 31 (without bodyside bands, etc), and seem to be modifying the chassis for that primarily, but also modifying the existing body for the new chassis. With the 47s, they are doing a variant they haven't done before, and modifying the chassis for that.

So it seems that for this year at least they are changing the chassis when they are doing other modifications, but otherwise not - so far as it's been mentioned the models which are just being done in different liveries, with no other changes (57, Deltic) are not having a modified chassis.

Interesting speculation. I wish Farish would actually tell us all of these important things. (But then they would have to stick to it !)

I suppose I am going to answer my own question here

But given that the Class 40 has only just hit the shops, almost a year after it was announced and given that the 8F with sound announced at the same time as the Class 40 has never hit the shops, I suppose the Class 31 will be at least a year away from release, so don't think I will bother pre-ordering yet, at my age a lot can happen in a year ;)
