Kestrel figures
« on: May 22, 2018, 12:46:20 am »
Just got the Gaugemaster email. Those new Kestrel figures look like good value. Do they come already painted?

Definitely worth a look if they are!

Looks like they are painted, because there is a bulk pack of seated people listed specifically as unpainted. That looks good value too at 72 figures for £4.95.

That's what I was thinking, because they offer the unpainted pack, as you say.

Sad sign of the times that they offer crime scenes, though!

Indeed. I'm currently in Japan, and have seen a few here, too.

Iím currently in the US and no shortage of the homeless or the daily crime scenes. Kestrel have nailed it with these sets. Now, about the bricklayer set...apparently based on the Mexican/US border.

didn't think that set included bricklayers, thought it had been changed to fence post errectors and mesh fencing / razor wire installers

I've only just come across this thread. :hmmm: Now I find myself troubled with a few questions prompted by the Homeless pack and the Crime Scenes pack.

I wonder what is the point of the Homeless pack? Is it to entertain, and if that is the point, is it right that we should view the homeless as entertainment? Is it intended to raise awareness to a real issue that seems increasingly prevalent across society (in the UK at least)? Will the homeless benefit in any way from this pack - are all profits going to Shelter/Crisis/Centrepoint/etc.?

When it comes to the Crime Scenes pack, I wonder why all the aggressive characters are male and all the women are cast in the role of victim?

One could easily argue that these packs are representative of real-life issues - I wouldn't argue against that - but personally I'm very uncomfortable with their existence as is. I shall not be buying either of these packs. What I will be doing, is questioning them whenever I come across them - at the point of sale or display. I just feel it is very wrong to make entertainment or financial profit from these issues without at least attempting to poke society's consciousness and open a discussion on the issues.
