I'm making a Google Map of the tour for everyone to see of the tour.  Now, I will ask to make sure members agree to having their rough location and screen-name put on it.

The wagons choose not to like my code 80 track with its tight curves so I didn't get to enjoy running them much  :'( nice models tho.
Would try again this week but Shiney is waiting his turn

Very good pictures fella.  Sorry to hear they didn't like your curves.  I'm sure it won't matter if you kept them until the weekend. ;)  I like the different levels you have on the layout.

#1...... Ive PMd Shiney to say they will be posted today/tomorrow latest.
#2....the parcel is packed etc.
#3 hmph :-\ there must be a #3 surely
As a youngster when I had a good old Hornby 3 rail train set I was always trying to get it o go 'uphill' and over bridges but always failed to get a satisfactory outcome so now Ive started  (30/40 years later) in N gauge one of my 1st challenges was to get an extra level up above the rest of the layout.

Not good news I'm afraid chaps   :(

Just got them onto my track and it seems there is a problem with both wagons not wanting to go round any curves at all without falling off,so looks like it was not jonclox track that was at fault.

I will PM Tank to see if it's ok for me to effect a repair job as the bogies are quite stiff on their pivot points so as soon as they get to a curve they just want to go straight on.

Hopefully normal service will resume asap

Well its good that they have arrived for you but not the rest of the post.
Yes they  did seem stiff to me but I thought it might have been the fact that they are so long and therefore not designed for tight curves.I ont think it was anything that  had done wrong but you ave me worried now :-[

All done from kits and painted by myself

I have a lot of obscure loco's that you can't get rtr some bought made up but most done by myself,I suppose that's my thing

At the moment I am just finishing the last two coaches of the LMS streamlined Coronation set in blue with the silver stripes

It's picture time :D

First of all the wagons visited my big home layout:

Here they met a fellow forum's tour:

They then took a trip to my club last wednesday:

And today they took pride of place on Bewdley at the Bloxwich Exhibition:

Will be sending them on to Chris this coming monday :D

Enjoy!

Well I received a parcel today which jolted my memory that I've not updated on here for a while :-[

The wagons arrived safely despite the postie ignoring the "Recorded Signed For" label and dumping the parcel in the gas meter box. I've done a couple of daylight photos then will do some more when it goes dark so I can photograph them under the floodlights, then I am preparing a little video.

I also have a dedicated camcorder now that replaced my old Fuji camera for video so will have a play around with that tonight.

I'm finding lately that I'm spending a lot less time on forums and the inter-web generally, partly due to being back at work part-time and also due to spending a lot more time outdoors now that my health and weather permits. I'm fast becoming a trainspotter now, finding more and more things to film around Norfolk's railways! Expenditure on the layout has been scaled back due to diminishing funds, being limited to smaller ebay purchases.

You've certainly been taking some great pictures from what I've seen on facebook. You're lucky to have so many different loco's and trains coming past.  Feel free to put them on the photo's section if you want. :camera:   I've slowed down on my layout too, for the same reason... £££'s.

Don't worry Chris, I will! I don't know if it's becuase this year's been a good year for railtours or if it's just because I now make the effort to see them but this year has been a good one for railtours around this area. We have a couple of kettles coming our way over the next few weeks too so will be out for them.

Right - here are the photos from the very special visit to Old Warren today.

This afternoon D1015 Western Champion breezed past the depot with the wagons bound for Old Warren town where a publicity event was taking place:-

Then after nightfall, the wagons returned past the depot behind 37069 and 37218 bound for the docks ready to be shipped to Japan (almost bowled by a cement working!).

And another view by another spotter in the field:-

I also put together a video of the afternoon and evening's spotting!

Heavy freight finished on this small Japanese back-water many years ago. What is left is a small but regular transfer flow, which brings a DE10, or even occasionally a DD51, through to the town; breaking the monotony of DMUs. This time, however is a little different, as a special container train made its way down to the branch...with some rather interesting wagons...

The locals were unsure of what the 'N Gauge Forum' actually produced; or if NGF is a product, how much they actually required bearing in mind four containers-worth of the stuff was heading their way... The vicious rumour that all the NGF produced was a lot of hot air and wind was discounted by the very reasonable observation that the container flats would have needed to have been loaded with pressurised tanks, as opposed to standard containers, for such hazardous material!

These Yamanishi Prefecture folk are such little tinkers aren't they?

Anyhow, the Micro Ace DD51 brough the containers, along with a BBC example (constructed from the paper kit available from the BBC website when they first launched the 'Box'), and a couple of standard offerings to a rather bare station. Buildings have started to temporarily appear; however it will still be some time before the town has the air of permanence the residents so desire...at least their track-work is stable!

Next up (hopefully next Friday) will be a visit to the larger town of Yamanouchi Oshika; which itself is undergoing some serious redevelopment.

Glad to hear that the containers reached the news on your layout.   :)  Hopefully they won't find out that they're full of unsecured nuclear waste. :o ;D

The BBC container looks great too.  I used to follow that online.

The tour has just arrived at Ives Yard.

08763 is shunting them into the yard after D163 (yet to get its new livery as it's well away from its home depot just as the blue changeover is happening) delivered them safely from the docks after their voyage from Japan. They're sharing the sidings with the Ives End GWR Society's Clun Castle and its short rake of Collets for the evening, so they'll be in good company until they get to run around the main line (currently under repair after an attack by a giant radioactive cat which also hitched a lift over from Japan) tomorrow.

(it was all sounding so historically plausible until the giant radioactive cat bit too ;) )

This is the cat just as brave RAF helicopter crews distracted it with a giant ball of string..

Despite getting shot at by its laser eyebeams, they managed to safely lure it away to the Bide A Wee Giant Kitty Sanctuary somewhere on Dartmoor.

More shots of the wagons later :)

More pics.

Raveningham Hall takes the early morning GWR Heritage run while we wait for the wagons to be picked up for their day out.

Collected by 47404 Hadrian, the wagons are run around the main line below the village of Ives End

While Hadrian waits for a signal to clear, restored Pannier Tank 4612 is shunting in the yard just like it used to do in the post war years.

Hi,

thanks to some probably conspirative action (but not mine ) the wagons made their short cut to Germany and I happily received them from the post office this morning.

To give evidence they are really in Germany I showed them the next Biergarten first, however no one is having their beers  :beers: there at the moment since the weather is not as one could expect in an average July.

Before taking them to the meeting next weekend I decided to give them a run on Sarnau, my previous roundy-roundy running-in layout. Unsurprisingly, they do not like S-curves in radius 1, but no problems on the outer loop.

Afterwards they caused some trouble at the year 50's goods yard where no one of the staff had an idea how to unload them and so they were quickly pulled out by an 08 again. However this won't be a problem on the exhibition since operation will be focussed on stock 1985 onwards I assume they'll make a perfect fit.

More pics to follow soon!

Hi,

with the meeting having come to a successful end yesterday, it's now time to show what happened to our special guests from Britain. First, apologies for not having managed to take pics of them on every single modular section of the layouts shown last weekend, but I'm in good hope some additions from other forum members around here may take place ;)

The wagons made their first trip on the Epoche 5 continental layout of a mainly Frankfurt based group dedicated to modelling current industrial traffic in N gauge. The wagons were quite a good fit all around the layout.

Following this expedition, they were put where they actually belonged and transferred to the British modular layout. This mainly consisted of forum member McRuss, mine and another fellow modeller's sections, set together into one Y-shaped and timetable operated layout. This meant the forum wagons making a rather long trip from Scotland to Penzance via a Cambrian Coast based motive power depot and its sidings several times.

Well, those of us who are interested in british railways are mostly here already, I think.

I checked my photos but I didn't manage to take a single picture of the NGF containers, although I had them in one of my trains. I've posted my pictures over in the other thread http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=846.msg14952#msg14952

the modules are owned by the individuals. Most of us are member of FREMO, but the modules are not owned by FREMO.

Hi Chris, and hi Markus,
maybe we should explain this since I guess not everyone around here entering the wagon tour thread may be familiar what this Fremo stuff is about. The modular sections the wagons are shown on all belong, as McRuss mentioned, to individual modellers and are genuinely intended not only to be run at each ones home but in meetings with other fellow modellers. For example, the Epoch 5 continental industrial sections belong to about five different members, whilst the British based sections are owned by three persons, McRuss, me, and a third fellow who is responsible for some great sections such als the small Scottish halt ("Earlish") and the steel girder bridge pictured above. However, it is to admit that the very most modules are actually in the hands of McRuss who can form an exhibition layout on his own.

If anyone interested the construction of such modular sections is described here on the forum for example:
Here: http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=846.0
and there: http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=438.45

Both Fremo modellers dedicated to continental and British railways in Germany are unified by the idea of building their layouts to certain standardized changeovers so they can be combined mostly however this is desired. And this, combined with the idea of timetable based operation, is what Fremo is all about. It's fun  :D

Well its been a real pleasure to have these wagons, they made me see another dimension in my layout. Sorry the pics are a bit late but while decorating the staircase I managed to miss a step on a ladder and fall down the stairs finishing up rather battered, bruised and very stiff, back up and about now.

Tank, the micro machines were in a handful of toot I gave a pound for at Pedham Place boot sale, not to sure about them staying there, until I find something a bit more authentic they will do.
Thanks for the comments though, Im never to sure if what I have done really does look right. Originally this was going to be a Steam only venture but having visited several exhibitions now I find a lot of the late diesels look really good so my wife treated me to a couple, I think they look ok anyway!!!!

Fantastic Tim!  I can't wait to see pictures, and hopefully get some more members.

If I could get to TINGs then I'd have a go at Dapol and Bachmann for not replying to my emails about advertising on here and telling us of their product updates!   :smiley-laughing:  You'd think they'd jump at the chance to take part in a forum such as this. :-\

The NGF Wagon Tour reached North Carolina today.  Along with the December issue of Model Rail, the parcel was in my mailbox when I got home.  That makes it a good day.

(A great day would've been my Bubble cars from Hattons in there too.  Three weeks and counting!  Why do things take so long to get here from Liverpool???) ???

Anyway, I have just spent the last few weeks ::) wiring up my signals and I'm about ready for something different.  I will take some pictures of the wagons at the weekend. :camera:

The NGF Wagon Tour has reached Reading General, housed at home in North Carolina USA.

I tried to take a video with my old camera... the auto focus is bad and it's very grainy, but here you can see 47 035 leave Platform 5 of Reading General, with a Class 108 5-car DMU arriving at Platform 9.  Then what all the trainspotters have been waiting for, the NGF wagon tour passes by at the back of Platform 10 on its way East...

Sadly as my layout is distinctly unscenic, there isn't much to see, but the wagons have enjoyed a couple of days bustling round the layout behind Western Consort.

Cookiescrumble is next on the list.  I will get the packaged up and off early next week (it's Thanksgiving here so the PO will be shut the rest of this week).

Mark.

I will have to scratchbuild the station/ticket hall.  I plan to make the platforms from the Scalescenes kits and probably use Ratio canopies, but the station building will be scratchbuilt for sure.  I have a small bundle of bits including brick paper, etched windows and canopy roof-lights, to make the station/ticket hall and a bunch of photos to go by too.

Much of the town will end up being scratchbuilt... the one I'm looking forward to is the Metal Box building (or Queen's House as it is officially known), it is a big rail-side landmark as you pull in and out of the station so it will be a centre piece.

Not for sale I'm afraid.  I love them too much and the hours of care it took, I am just too attached.  Aren't they coming out in Farish soon?  I can recommend the NGS kits though, they are really well designed and easy to do.

Today I entrusted the precious cargo to the United States Postal Service bound for Scotland. Alex Crawford is up next.  Hoping I have missed the Xmas post, it should arrive in about 10 days.

Hi,

The wagons had a run around both layouts today. Quite cold conditions and my camera started playing up but I got some piccies.

First off my Consolidation got the ball running by taking them through Snake Pass over the low bridge and in behind the stock pens before disappearing into the tunnel.

My Class 27 muscled in and took them around the lower layout but this is when my camera started to play up so only one piccy of this.

Well it was nice to welcome the wagons back to Old Warren TMD this afternoon! I have put together a video which is currently uploading to YouTube to advertise this tour & the forum itself.

To celebrate the visit, the staff at Old Warren TMD organised an open day. The previous night, 37218 and 37069 were observed hauling the wagons in top & tail formation, arriving at the Old Warren headshunt late in the evening. 37069 is seen leading the formation into the depot.

37069 was then detached so that 37218 could then shunt the wagons to the display point:

37069 was then manouvred into position in front of 37218:

Next day saw the open day, with West Coast Railways putting on a shuttle service from nearby Old Warren and Kingswood, comprising 3 of WCRC's pullman coaches and 57601. Not seen is the temporary platform:

Plenty of locos to be seen at the open day. These photos were taken before the crowds arrived:

But there was no doubt as the real stars of the show!

After the open day, the wagons went off to another nearby location, before finally setting off for the docks, bound for Yosemite Valley Railroad. 66566 took the wagons as part of the 4E67 working to Southampton.

Another successful event, and one that no doubt should raise the profile of the N Gauge Forum that bit further.

I'll pop a link to the video once the upload is complete.

The 2011 tour will soon come to a close, once the current list has finished.  Thanks to everyone who has been involved, and for making it such a smooth and enjoyable tour.

The new 2012 tour is soon to be underway.  I'm currently waiting for the go ahead from the Moderators to let Adam at Electra print out the wonderful design he's made for us again this year.  Steamers should be happier with this years choice.  ;)

Cheers,

The Wagons were delivered to Longford Road this morning by two Class 20's with spares for the resident Class 101's currently stored at the preservation site awaiting further use.

The N Gauge Forum Wagon Tour visits Longford Road Preservation Site 27/01/2012 (http://youtu.be/5Y3jvp-Efvw)

There is no sound on this video because I have had to slow down the speed they were run at (the 20's don't like the pointwork at slow speed).

I will post further videos and photos over the coming days before returning the wagons to Tank for storage :-)

Could I put in a request?

When I had the wagons earlier on in the tour, the intention was to run them on Yamanouchi Oshika. That never happened as the layout was in storage throughout that time. As the layout is due out to play at Eurotrack next month, would a revisit be possible? I reckon they would look good as part of the 20-wagon container train we have running... ;D

Although due to appear on Yamanouchi Oshika at Eurotrack next weekend, the wagons arrived at Dreyfus Towers in time for the Midhurst show, and a quick visit to the US... :o

This is Wathermaske; a newly completed layout by a member of our club...this was its first public showing. It is an interesting concept; very narrow but quite long...the boards are eight inches wide.

The choice of motive power was also a little unusual...although the various passengers awaiting the morning Budd railcar did not seem too interested in this unusual combination!

Finally bringing up the rear on this, Yamanouchi Oshika has been set up for testing in preparation for showing at the local rural fair in a couple of weeks time. As part of the testing, a couple of trains were run - one of which being a container service running a couple of familiar wagons!

The EH200 made easy work of its heavy train...seen passing through Yamanouchi Oshika on its way toward Tokyo.

Sadly, their revisit to Japan was short-lived, and they will be winging their way back to Daddy next week.

Superb layout Nick. Nice to see the wagons on their last stop of the tour, all the way over in the Land of the Rising Sun!
