Announced today are two new car packs for 1960s and 1970s. Attractive list price but do not get excited that new car types are included. They are not.

Each set includes 4 cars from the selection shown in the listing.

Strangely titled......

Oxford Rail Carflat Pack 1960'S Cars -1:76 Scale
Product Code: OR148CPK001
OXFORD RAIL

but the description reads............

A set of four Oxford Diecast N scale cars. A randomly chosen assortment of cars suitable for use on Carflat railway wagons during the 1960's.

Ah, right you are. I was looking for something more nuanced.

Hi all,

I hope they do mean N.  What a great idea!

Cheers

They've got a broader range in OO, so a bit odd if they've copied half of them into the N gauge section, updated the description, but omitted the title...

Just read this and I don't think they will be suitable for car flats as you get four randomly chosen cars ,surely on car flats you would get cars all the same ,or are the car flats meant for holiday traffic say from London to Penzance for instance not from a factory .
Sorry for my ignorance about them.

Oxford's MD has just confirmed that the description has been corrected to confirm 1/148 scale.

Hi Bob,

Car flats on Motorail services would be carrying whatever vehicle the motorist drove up in, so likely to be a variety of family cars with the odd small van or caravanette thrown in.  I don't think caravans themselves could be transported though; I suspect they would have risked being out of gauge.

Delivery trains would probably comprise all the same marque, if not necessarily the same vehicles - for example Ford Escorts and Cortinas on the same train. I've certainly seen and read about a train that ran loaded with nothing but Hillman Imps.

Cheers

Probably some Singer Chamois and Sunbeam imps in the mix.As all Imps were made in Linwood and the main markets were down south they filled trains regularly

I seem to recall that initially there was a train of body pressings from Coventry to Linwood for the Imp range too. Early Imps did a lot of miles on trains! A new body pressing plant was commissioned next to Linwood once production was in full swing.
